The First United Methodist of Santa Monica has something to sing about — the opera is coming.

The Verdi Chorus, a Southern California tradition for opera since 1983, will present its 21st Annual Spring Concert April 16, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 17, at 4 p.m. The program will feature choruses from “The Pearl Fishers” by Bizet, “Faust” by Gounod, and “Nabucco” by Verdi, as well as selections from the Broadway musical, “My Fair Lady” by Lerner and Loewe.

Guest artists, Shana Blake Hill, soprano; Gabriel Reoyo-Pazos, tenor; and Robert Gomez, baritone will perform with the chorus, singing operatic favorites.

Anne Marie Ketchum, an associate professor of music at Pasadena City College where she directs the opera program, is the chorus music director. Laraine Stivers- Madden, an assistant professor of music at Pasadena City College where she directs the accompanying program, is the group’s accompanist.
