How to build with cleaner, safer materials and designs will be the subject of an exposition in Santa Monica.

The Third Annual Alternative Building Materials and Design Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 4 at Barker Hangar, 3021 Airport Ave., located at the Santa Monica Airport.

More than 100 exhibits will feature manufacturers of green building materials, landscape and water conservation products, interior design products and furnishings, utility companies, non-profit organizations and city and state agencies.

The expo is the largest and most extensive showcase of green building and design products and materials in the Los Angeles area which is significant because by 2010, green building will be worth a minimum of $30 billion as it moves completely into the mainstream.

Attendance to the expo is free and the public is invited as well as architects, builders, designers and landscape architects. The expo is sponsored by the city of Santa Monica and co-sponsored by the Green Building Council, ASID, Forest Stewardship Council, Building Green, Global Green, The Green Building Resource Center and AIA.
