Published:

The play stars Meredith Baxter, a CLARE Foundation board member, and Jeffrey Tambor, a long-time supporter of CLARE. The show will be held at the Church in Ocean Park at Second and Hill streets. The evening will open with a silent auction and dessert reception at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, May 12. The performance begins at 8:30 p.m.

The one-act play chronicles the lives of Andrew Makepeace III and Melissa Gardner, childhood sweethearts from the 1930s through the 1980s. Their story is related through letters they write to each other. While Andrew is in Europe fighting World War II, Melissa marries another. Andrew returns, also marries, and rises to success as a lawyer, then senator. Melissa struggles as an artist, spiraling down through addiction and despair, her marriage in ruins. Andrew’s final letter is to Melissa’s mother, after Melissa’s untimely death.
