Santa Monica College is on a different planet. The Santa Monica College John Drescher Planetarium’s special feature show, “Einstein’s Universe,” continues in May as part of the college’s year-long celebration of its 75th anniversary.
The feature show takes a look at Einstein’s theory of relativity, which 100 years ago launched a scientific revolution that led to the discovery of warped space, black holes, the Big Bang and more.
“Einstein’s Revolution” is scheduled for 8 p.m. on May 13. The guest lecture in May will be “The Universe on the Dome.” Griffith Observatory Art Director Don Dixon will talk about how digital artists are creating spectacular new effects for the Observatory’s 2005 reopening. The guest lecture will be on May 20.
The feature show and guest lecture will be preceded by “The Night Sky Show,” which re-creates the night sky and provides the latest information on space exploration. That will be held at 7 p.m.
The astronomy shows are held in the John Drescher Planetarium, which features the state-of-the-art Digistar projection system. It is located on the second floor of Drescher Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. The guest lecture is in science lecture hall 140.
Tickets are $5 each or $9 for the “double bill,” with discounts for children and senior citizens. For information, call (310) 434-4223 or (310) 434-3000.
