Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center is building for the future, but first it needs money to do so.
Sponsored by the First Federal Bank of California, Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center will host its biannual fundraiser “The Gala 2005: Building for the Future” this weekend. The black-tie-optional event will feature a reception and silent auction, dinner, dancing and music by Wayne Foster Entertainment.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Santa Monica-UCLA’s $275-million rebuilding project, currently taking shape around the existing hospital. Plans call for the 271-bed new hospital, which will be named Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital, to be completed in phases beginning next spring. The new name reflects an alliance between UCLA Healthcare and Orthopedic Hospital in downtown Los Angeles, according to hospital officials. Under the alliance, Orthopedic Hospital will move its inpatient services to Santa Monica while continuing to provide outpatient services at the downtown facility.
The event will take place at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, 9500 Wilshire Blvd. on Saturday, May 14, at 6 p.m. For tickets or information about other giving opportunities at Santa Monica-UCLA, please call Wendi Morner at (310) 825-5328.
