Walking through Palisades Park can now be a botanical educational experience. Thanks to the contribution of long-time Santa Monica resident and Palisades Park advocate Gerald Condon, the city of Santa Monica has installed more than 100 plant and tree identification signs along Ocean Avenue. The signs are interspersed between Wilshire Boulevard and Adelaide Drive, and identify 42 different tree species and 52 plant and shrub species. The signs include both the common and the botanical name of each species.

Condon, a retired tax lawyer, considers Palisades Park “one of the most beautiful parks in the world.” An avid walker and promoter of healthy living through walking, Condon believes that the plant identification signs will be of interest to the park’s regular users, tourists and school children, city officials said.
