Cycling now has a new benefit — and it’s more than physical. The American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure, an annual cycling event, will be held on the Santa Monica Pier Saturday, May 21, along a scenic route, according to association officials. The event raises funds for diabetes research, programs, and advocacy. The event has three levels — targeted to beginner, intermediate and advanced cyclists. The 50-mile event begins at 7 a.m. The 25-mile ride begins at 8:30 a.m. and the five-mile family ride starts at 9:30 a.m. With each scenic ride, participants can expect fully-loaded rest stops and support vehicles, and a free lunch along with music and entertainment at the completion of the event. To register, visit www.diabetes.org/santamonicatour or for information, call 1-888-DIABETES, ext. 7447. Vets need books
