Letter: Reader urges council to spend panhandling funds on enforcement

Published:

By Ron Yukelson San Luis Obispo

Dear City Council, I’ll save you $100,000 (“Panhandling campaign still a work in progress,” page 3, May 20). The people of Santa Monica hate the panhandling homeless and City Hall’s consistent non-response to it. It causes productive, property owning citizens with higher than average incomes like me to move away because after 25 years of residency in Santa Monica the situation continued to deteriorate rather than improve.

With the $100,000 I just saved you, please put it toward stepped up enforcement of the panhandling laws and towards transportation for the homeless to “Shriver Island” at the West Los Angeles VA.
