By Christen MacDonald Santa Monica
In response to [criticism of Santa Monica Treesavers], to set the record straight, the Treesavers were not defeated. There were originally over 100 ficus and palm trees scheduled for removal on Second and Fourth streets.
It’s true, we did lose our lawsuit on a technicality. The statute of limitations — they decided — had run out. The city’s case was never clear. We want to thank the community for all of their support, it has really meant a lot to us.
Although it’s very flattering you think that we could solve the city’s problems if we put our minds to it. Sadly, we cannot. If you feel so strongly about the plight of the homeless, maybe you should get involved. We have suggested to the City Council that better uses for this public money exist, especially the homeless situation. Only one council member agrees with us, Mr. Kevin McKeown.
Ask the City Council why they spent enormous amounts of money to remove perfectly healthy trees. There are arborists reports to prove it.
They are spending even more of this money to plant new ones, not to mention what it will cost to move seven trees down the street. We do not think these trees should be moved.
The police will handle the murders, not our area of expertise. We are Treesavers and we are environmentally concerned.
Get your own cause, be part of the solution. Or get some rest.
