A smashing good time is expected this week at a local school. Santa Monica Alternative School House (SMASH) is inviting all community members to attend its annual carnival and fundraiser. The family festival will feature multi-ethnic food booths, raffle prizes and children’s games and activities, from a water slide to a toddler’s petting zoo. Nearly 200 items will be available at silent auction, including weekend getaways, local dining packages, and exclusive sporting and entertainment events. Live music will be played throughout the day at adjacent Los Amigos Park, featuring performances by alumni, students and the Grateful Dads. SMASH is a K-8 public school committed to diversity and a progressive curriculum, according to officials. Teachers and staff will be on hand to meet residents eager to learn more about non-traditional public education. Admission is free. The event will take place on June 18, from noon to 5 p.m. at the corner of Fifth Street and Ocean Park Boulevard.
