Stroller Strides, the country’s largest fitness program for new moms, is celebrating its second anniversary in the West Los Angeles community.
The anniversary event will take place on Saturday, June 24, at Clover Park, located at 2600 Ocean Park Blvd. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a master class, followed by a mini health and fitness expo, silent auction, lunch and a special visit from Elmo.
Since Tracy Brown opened Stroller Strides in June 2004, women in West Los Angeles have been able to get fit through a program including power walking and intervals of body toning using exercise tubing and the stroller. Stroller Strides instructors weave songs and activities into the routine designed to entertain and occupy the baby, while mom is led through a series of exercises incorporating stretch tubing, the stroller, the baby and the environment to create an outdoor gym. 60 minutes yields a total body workout improving cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility.
Stroller Strides has 300 locations and more than 15,000 participants nationwide. Stroller Strides is open to all childcare givers from fathers and grandparents to baby-sitters and nannies.
In recognition of the anniversary, Stroller Strides of West Los Angeles will donate all profits from the event to The National Breast Cancer Foundation. Breast cancer is the No. 2 killer of women in America and in this year alone, more than 211,000 women will be diagnosed and 43,300 will die. Shift into thrift with First United
