The Santa Monica Public Library invites teens in grades sixth through 12 to sign up for a poetry-writing workshop with young adult author Sonya Sones.
Sones is well-known for her novels in verse including “Stop Pretending,” “One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies,” and “What My Mother Doesn’t Know.” She also has written various short stories for teen anthologies. The Young Writers’ Workshop is designed to help teens find their “inner poet” through writing exercises and discussion. The workshop will take place over three days from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Monday, July 10; Wednesday, July 12; and Friday, July 14 in the community room at the Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd.
Registration for the workshop can be made in person at the youth reference desk in the Main Library or over the phone at (310) 458-8620 during library hours. Limited spaces are available, so register in advance. For more information about the workshop, call Erica Tang at (310) 458-8620.
