Venice actor Stefan Wolfert returns to Shakespeare Santa Monica in Richard III

Published:

Venice resident Stefan Wolfert will be performing in his second go-around with the summer Shakespeare program.

Performing the title role in “Richard III,” the play has a special place in Wolfert’s heart. It was after watching “Richard III” in 1996 that Wolfert decided to leave the military to become an actor, an emotional decision for Wolfert, who spent seven years in the Army.

Wolfert enrolled the following year in the Brown/Trinity Repertory Consortium in Providence, R.I.

“I’ve played in 1,000-seat theaters,”
“This allows you to truly be.” — he said. Wolfert said
“It quite literally changed my life,”

Since then, Wolfert has performed in theatrical productions across the country, moving out to Los Angeles about three years ago to focus more on his film career.

There’s something special about performing in the Miles Playhouse, its intimate setting allowing actors to interact directly with the audience, Wolfert said, alluding to why he decided to return to Shakespeare Santa Monica for a second year.
