Get ready for the soothing force of jazz. The Westside Waldorf School (WWS) will partner with the Jazz Bakery to bring a Sunday afternoon and evening with multi-platinum recording artist Freddie Ravel and his seven-piece Latin jazz band which includes musician Ron Powell as Ravel’s percussionist.
Waldorf education is designed to cultivate highly motivated, creative, independent thinkers that learn to think with their heads, hearts and hands, school officials say. Ravel mirrors the multi-dimensional approach to learning in his music.
Universal Music Group touts Ravel as: “One of the most outstanding keyboard players, composers and producers …” that has “recorded and performed with many icon artists including Earth Wind and Fire, Phil Collins, Quincy Jones, Madonna, All Jarreau, the Boston Pops and Prince.”
The driving force for the Westside Waldorf School event is raising funds to support its Tuition Assistance Program, which is based on a commitment to make Waldorf education accessible to all families who value it, regardless of financial circumstances.
“Securing the futures of families who deserve to be with our community, but are unable to afford the education is a priority,” said Jeffery Graham, the school’s director.
The silent auction will feature original Picasso, Dali and Chagall lithographs from the Andrew Weiss Gallery of Beverly Hills, and celebrities who support the WWS Tuition Assistance Program will attend including film and television star, Ed O’Neill and comedian A.J. Jamal who also emcee the event.
For tickets, call the Jazz Bakery at (310) 271-9039. The event will start at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 14 at the Jazz Bakery, 3233 Helms Ave., Culver City. The afternoon will begin with light fare and a silent auction followed by the jazz concert at 6 p.m.
