Should the homeless shelter move to the city's east side?

Published:

A proposed homeless shelter at Cloverfield Boulevard and Michigan Avenue has many residents upset because they think transients will loiter, panhandle and engage in other antisocial behavior in their neighborhoods.

The daytime shelter, which is operated by the Ocean Park Community Center, currently is located at Sixth Street and Colorado Avenue. But OPCC wants to move to a larger facility on the east side.

The agency may have a tough time getting approval from City Hall since opposition to the idea seems to grow each day.

So this week, Q-Line wants to know, “Should the homeless shelter be moved to the city’s east side? If not, where is the best place to put it?”

Call (310) 285-8106 with your response before Thursday at 5 p.m. We’ll print them in Friday’s paper. Please limit your comments to a minute or less; it might help to think first about the wording of your response.
