Local do-gooders will get a nod next month from their community. The Church in Ocean Park will host its seventh annual Communitas Awards on Sept. 10.
Organizers said the Communitas Awards honor local community members whose personal and public lives “embody and elevate the spirit of community.”
This year the church will honor artist Sylvia Gentile; her husband Mario Fonda- Bonardi, an architect; long-time social justice activist Torie Osborn and Chris Chapple, a religion professor at LMU; and Maureen Shannon-Chapple, a teacher and member of the Church in Ocean Park.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with a buffet dinner, followed by the awards ceremony, a raffle and music at 7:30 p.m.
The church requests a $50 donation for the event, which benefits its capital campaign to continue restoration and upkeep of its buildings. Pacific Park stays connected
