Have you stopped to think about the rich history along Wilshire Boulevard? Well now you can. On Oct. 2, the Los Angeles Conservancy will take visitors on a self-guided tour from downtown Los Angeles, through Beverly Hills, to Santa Monica while exploring the architectural and cultural history of the famous thoroughfare. Wilshire Boulevard includes the most dense and ethnically diverse neighborhoods of Los Angeles; represents virtually every dominant building type of the 20th century; and exemplifies the role of the automobile in the growth of the region, officials said.
Six selected sites along the way will be open for docent tours, such as the former Bullocks Wilshire, now part of the Southwestern University School of Law. A guidebook and kid’s activity book are included. Tour goers may drive their own cars or take the Wilshire Metro bus.
Tickets for the Wilshire Boulevard tour — which includes the tour of Miles Playhouse and the Palisades Park guidebook — are available for $35 at www.lacon-servancy.org., or by phone at (213) 623-2489. The Buddhist life featured at SMC
