Q-Line asks whether Santa Monica should blanket the entire city with Wi-Fi

Published:

City Hall has recently expanded its high-speed wireless network to 11 locations within the city, adding sites such as the Santa Monica Pier, the Civic Auditorium and its own building’s lobby and courtyard, making it exceedingly easier for laptop users and Internet junkies to get their online fix.

Several cities across the U.S. have pursued blanketing their entire region with “Wi-fi,” allowing residents either free access or charging a monthly access fee in efforts to recoup the costs of installing such a network.

So this week, Q-Line wants to know: “Should Santa Monica render the entire city a “hotspot,” with Internet access for all? How should the costs be offset?
