There was an “only in Santa Monica” moment I witnessed Sunday night at the performance of our local (free, wonderful) symphony at the Civic Center. At the conclusion of Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor, Opus 85, which featured the dynamic Cecelia Tsan as soloist, a good-looking couple in their 30s headed up the aisle in animated conversation: Man: I thought the cellist showed a lot of style. Woman: Fresh, and really energetic. Like she was fresh off winning the “American Idol of Cello.” Like “America’s Best Cellists” or something.
Man: Let’s pitch it! Woman: Where? Man: PBS?
