While getting some grub for themselves this week, diners at a local restaurant can also help feed the impoverished and the down-and-out.

The Spitfire Grill is holding a “Food Drive Week”promotion on behalf of the Westside Food Bank through Oct. 14, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Diners who bring in a bag of non-perishable food items for Westside Food Bank will receive a 20 percent discount off their dinner bill, excluding alcohol. The Spitfire Grill, 3300 Airport Ave., has been a fixture in Santa Monica for more than 50 years.

Westside Food Bank, now celebrating its 25th anniversary of service to the community, provides food to 65 local agencies with food assistance programs for low-income families and individuals. Member agencies are located in Santa Monica, Venice, Culver City, West Los Angeles, Inglewood and West Hollywood. The Food Bank is also a founding member of Santa Monica Organizations Active in Disaster. Each year, the Food Bank’s food reaches more than 80,000 people, nearly half of whom are children.
