The Santa Monica College theatre arts department is presenting Tony-and Emmy-nominated actor Obba Babatundé, who will present a master class called “The Joy of Acting: Character Development, Audition Process, Scene Study.”
The free master class, open to the public, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the Hangar Stage, located at SMC’s Airport Campus, 2800 Airport Ave. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.
Babatundé is perhaps best known for his Tony-nominated portrayal of CC White in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls and his magical performance as legendary jazz artist Jelly Roll Morton in the world premiere of Jelly’s Last Jam.
He also has more than 50 film and television credits and has received acclaim from his peers with nominations for Emmy and Cable ACE awards and the NAACP’s Image Award.
This is the second in SMC’s fall Theatre Arts Master Class series, which is co-sponsored by the SMC Associates, a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus.
