Westwood Hills Congregational Church recently joined with Nashuva Jewish Faith Community to picnic with St. Joseph Center’s infants, toddlers, and their families at Clover Park in Santa Monica. More than 50 men, women and children attended the festive kosher barbecue with balloons and games for the children.

The two congregations also brought art supplies, diapers, baby supplies, clothing, video games, and plants for SJC’s infant toddler development center, which provides free, full-day child-care for low-income and homeless families with children under 3 years old on the westside.

“Nashuva meets at Westwood Hills Congregational Church and joins with the church in all its social action,” said Rabbi Naomi Levy. “We believe our partnership is a model for how people of different faiths can come together to learn more about each other. We cannot close our eyes to the problems in our society and world. We have to see, listen, and do whatever we can to help.”

St. Joseph Center provides emergency services, case management, job training, and senior services for homeless and low-income men, women, and children in Venice, Santa Monica, and West Los Angeles.
