Get to know local Red Cross staff and volunteers at the American Red Cross of Santa Monica “Lets get to know each other” fete next week.
The community event will be held Monday, Nov. 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Monsoon Cafe, located at 1212 Third Street Promenade.
The mixer will enable Santa Monica citizens to meet and mingle with Santa Monica Red Cross representatives, many of whom were deployed to Florida, the Gulf Coast and Texas for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita disaster relief.
“This mixer is an opportunity to connect with some of the 1100 community members who came to the Red Cross to be trained in disaster preparedness and to volunteer locally as well as in the disaster zone,” said Eric Faber, a member of the Santa Monica chapter’s board of directors and organizer of the event.
In addition, members of the public can find out about Red Cross services and how the Red Cross would be of assistance in the event of a house or apartment fire, flood or major catastrophe such as a tsunami, earthquake or an extensive conflagration. Materials on how to prepare for a disaster will be available.
Free appetizers will be served compliments of the Monsoon Cafe and a cash bar
