Letter: Modern Infill Houses Threaten Santa Monica's Historic District Character

Published:

“THE ORIGINAL PLANS FOR OUR HYSterical (sic) district were that non-contributing parcels were not to be subject to the stringent rules and added buildings were either supposed to be old historical structures that could be moved here or new construction that resembled old buildings. None of these criteria are being implemented. Instead, the two new houses planned for Second Street are just more ugly, modern, giant milk cartons on tiny lots. The Third Street house in question will ruin the character of the old home. At least they could try and make the outside look antique or we should just forget the historical district and go for landmarking individual structures instead.”
