It’s been suggested that the vacant RAND building across from City Hall should be converted into a homeless shelter instead of being torn down, and made into a park and other governmental facilities.
City Hall owns the property and spends about $2 million on homeless services each year. Some have suggested that City Hall should redistribute that money into its own shelter. The idea is that the shelter would provide transitional housing and would be tied to work and educational programs, as well as addiction and mental illness programs.
So this week, Q-Line wants to know, “Is this a good idea? Why or why not?”
