Local girl and boy scouts last week prepared a memorable Christmas for many low-income individuals.
Volunteers from Pacific Palisades Girl Scout Troop 729, Westchester Boy Scout Troop 927, and The Caroling Company were on hand at St. Joseph Center’s annual Family Center holiday party Dec. 21, providing songs, gifts and games for low-income men, women and children in need.
This is the 24th season for The Caroling Company, singing for the less fortunate, as well as on Los Angeles radio stations, including K- Earth, KLAC, and Coast 103.
“We love to use our professional talents for the entire community during the holiday season,” said Diane Burt, the company’s director. “We look forward to it all year long.”
The Girl Scouts brought 16 dozen Christmas cookies, and made bracelets for the children and frames for the family photos taken with Santa Claus.
“They are an inspiration to all of us,” says Leticia Garcia-Greenman, director of family services at St. Joseph Center. “It’s organizations like these that help to bring joy and the holiday spirit to the center.”
St. Joseph Center has 11 programs on eight sites in Venice, Santa Monica, and West Los Angeles, providing case management, childcare, job training, and senior services to more than 7,000 homeless and low-income individuals and families so that they can achieve self-sufficiency.
