Altered Space Gallery presents, The Martini Show — The Martini Glass as Art, curated by Thomas Mann. The exhibition includes 50 artists from the U.S.and Canada, each recognized for excellence in their respective fields. The exhibition will run June 24 through July 24. An opening reception will be held on June 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The participating artists have been invited to attack, attach, embellish, conceptualize, restructure or otherwise enhance a simple stainless steel marti-ni glass. The artists have demonstrated that the path to interpretation is a wide one. They have all explored a wide variety of techniques while using a variety of materials in their creations. The invitational show includes artists from various disciplines including sculpture, experimental, ceramic, glass, encaustic, found object assemblage, and metal smithing. This variety in artistry explores the concept of the martini — a simple drink but one with deep cultural roots.
Altered Space Gallery is located at 1221 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice. Gallery hours are Sunday through Monday, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information on the gallery, e-mail
