A silent fundraiser

Silent films are making a comeback and helping a local school raise some much-needed funds.

A 1927 silent movie comedy, “The Kid Brother,” starring Harold Lloyd, will be screened to benefit the Lighthouse Church School. The movie, suitable for all ages, includes a musical soundtrack.

Lloyd, the “king of daredevil comedy,” plays timid Harold Hickory, youngest of three sons of a country sheriff. Harold falls in love with Mary, a young woman traveling with her late father’s medicine show, which burns down in Hickoryville. Harold’s father is wrongly accused of stealing money, and Harold must try to find the actual thieves.

The film will be shown at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Aero Theatre, located at 1328 Montana Ave. Tickets are $20.

The movie fund-raiser will benefit The Lighthouse Church School, which enrolls students from kindergarten through high school at two campuses in Santa Monica. For reservations, call (310) 264-0634. Don’t suffer the pain alone
