Santa Monica Alternative School House celebrates its 30th anniversary this weekend with a special carnival and silent auction. SuperSMASH Saturday features games, rides, local food vendors and a petting zoo. Admission is free and open to all community members. A reunion of former students and faculty will be held in the media center of the SMASH campus. The festival runs from noon to 5 p.m. at the campus and Los Amigos Park, which is located at Ocean Park Boulevard and Fifth Street.
Proceeds from the event will be used to support the school’s science, art and technology programs, which have been negatively impacted by recent budget cuts. The kindergarten through eighth grade public school serves an ethnically and economically diverse student population, and employs progressive education methods in a non-competitive environment, school officials said.
