By Daily Press staff

Music and pain will blend together on the stage next month. The Manzanar Youth choir will perform with the American Youth Symphony and the Santa Monica College Chamber Choir in “Manzanar: An American Story,” about the Second World War Japanese-American internment. The Manzanar Youth Choir consists of Southern California teens, ages ranging from 11 to 18, of varying ethnic backgrounds and who also participate in SMC’s Madison Project program. The program aims to educate youth through participation in the arts.

Sen. Daniel K. Inouye will narrate Manzanar. In addition, Olympic skating gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi, actor John Cho, screen and stage actor Sab Shimono, and Broadway actress Pat Suzuki will be readers.

Manzanar will be performed on June 2 at UCLA’s Royce Hall. For tickets and information, call (310) 825-2101 or visit www.uclalive.org. Elks sighted on Memorial Day
