MID-CITY With all of the reports of possible budget cuts that directly impact local schools, an area chiropractor has a plan to provide some much-needed relief for educators.
Dr. Brenden Murray at the Institute for Spine and Sports Care has designated April as “Teacher and Faculty Appreciation Month,” and is offering free exams, including a health history consultation and orthopedic and neurological exam — a $200 value — to all teachers, faculty and their families.
“I come from a family of teachers; my mother was a teacher for 30-plus years, my aunt, my sister, two of my sisters-in-law, are all teachers,” Murray said. “I was raised in a household where the importance of learning was stressed and the value of what a teacher does for their students was understood. I wanted to give something back to a vital profession and to my community.
“It’s important to take care of those who take care of our children.”
Patients will be required to show proof of their employment, or family member’s employment, prior to the appointment. All medical information is confidential. Appointments can be set up by calling (310) 998-5800. Teachers especially are in need of treatment considering they spend a lot of their day either hunched over writing or grading papers, or standing watching children on the playground, Murray said.
“This tends to lead to headaches, back and neck pain,” Murray said.
Murray is a native of Santa Monica. He graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Cleveland Chiropractic College for both his bachelor’s and doctorate degree with his emphasis being in sports healthcare. For over 20 years, he has been a doctor for many athletic teams at the high school and professional levels.
He is currently the team doctor for the United States Weightlifting Team competing in the Pan Am games this spring.
