Community members interested in economic issues are invited to attend a free lecture next week by New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman.

The lecture, “Will There Be a Dollar Crisis?,” will be held at 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15 in the Santa Monica College concert hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. Seating is on a first-arrival basis.

Krugman, a controversial economist best known for his outspoken opinion pieces in the New York Times, has been praised for his ability to write about sophisticated economic concepts in a way that non-economists can appreciate and understand, school officials said. He has written or edited 18 books, as well as hundreds of articles for such publications as the International Herald-Tribune, Fortune, and Slate Magazine, as well as the New York Times.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the SMC social science department and the SMC Associates, a private organization that funds speakers and special programs on campus. For information, call (310) 434-4303.
