Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium will celebrate the completion of a new roof with reopening festivities. The festivities will be from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the aquarium beneath the pier, 1600 Ocean Front Walk. The day will include special feedings at the Aquarium’s two largest tanks, the Kelp Forest and Pier tanks, naturalist presentations, arts and crafts, interactive education presentations and hands-on activities. Professional story teller/performance artist Diane Michelle will spin tales accompanied by music and puppetry throughout the day.
The Aquarium has been closed for two months during the roof construction, needed after years of water leaks during the rainy season and debris falling year-long from the eastern deck of the Santa Monica Pier above.
Winter Aquarium hours will be Tuesday through Friday: 2 to 5 p.m.; closed Mondays; weekends: 12:30 to 5 p.m. Children 12 and under admitted free with an adult; for all others there is a $5 suggested donation with a $2 required admission. Admission for groups of 10 or more is $2 per person. For more information please call (310) 393-6149. Drill to show SMFD’s skills
