A group of Armenian activists staged a demonstration on the Third Street Promenade Thursday to raise awareness of the movie ‘Ararat.’
The group dressed in all-black and they wore signs slung over their necks that together asked “What is Genocide?” and bandanas over their eyes that read “We want justice.”
The event was meant to raise awareness for the movie by famed director Atom Egoyan about how the Armenian Genocide during World War I still affects three generations of Armenians living in North America.
It’s estimated that under the Ottoman Empire, 1.5 million Armenians were slaughtered. It’s widely known that the Turkish government still refuses to acknowledge that the genocide took place.
‘Ararat’ is playing at the Loews Cineplex Broadway Cinemas — one of only 24 theaters nationally screening the movie — located on the Third Street Promenade.
