Although music and madness are part of every day life in Venice, even more is planned for this weekend.
The Nokia Core Tour kicks off on Friday, June 13 and lasts through Sunday. The Nokia Core Tour is a qualifier for the Gravity Games in Bike Dirt, so expect to see top BMXers including 2002 Gravity Games Gold Medalist Steven Murray, 2002 King of Dirt Champion Cory Nastazio and former X Games, Gravity Games and King of Dirt champion T.J. Lavin, along with the best local amateurs.
The event will take place on the beach in Venice near Windward and Pacific where music and action sports will meld under the hot sun for a sizzling three-day experience at the Nokia 5100 Core Tour that is free to spectators and appropriate for all ages. One of the bands, “h is orange,” appearing at 2 p.m., Saturday, has managed quite a bit of sizzle on its own.
Already named one of the “Hot 100 Unsigned Bands” by Music Connection Magazine, “h is orange” has a loyal local following. The five-man hard rock group, based in L.A., is working toward a full-length CD release at the end of the summer and is currently signing with a producer to guide the sound of the album.
After “h is orange” performs, the BMXers will start hangin’ it out by flying over three-story-high dirt jumps, alongside mountainboarders skyrocketing off 50-foot launch ramps.
This is the Core Tour’s fifth year, with stops including Venice Beach, Jones Beach, Long Island, NY (July 25-27) and Huntington Beach, (Sept. 5-7).
