SM BEACH One man and two women were stabbed on the beach near the Santa Monica Pier in the early morning hours Thursday, with one being listed in serious condition, police said.

The incidents occurred on the beach near Moss Avenue at 1:40 a.m., police said. A fight had broken out, and three people were stabbed. It was not clear what started the fight or if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The suspect fled the scene and a passerby called police.

One of the victims suffered a punctured lung and was listed in serious condition Thursday morning. The other two victims were rushed to local hospitals and were expected to be released later in the day.

Police are urging anyone with information on the stabbings to contact the SMPD at (310) 458-8411.

In another incident, which took place around the same time in roughly the same place, a man broke both his ankles after attempting to climb the pier from the beach, police said.

The man, who appeared to have been intoxicated, fell during an attempt to climb up the posts. It was not clear how far the man fell, but the force was strong enough to break both ankles.
