More than $450,000 was raised last month for the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center’s rebuilding project.

The “Bravo Brazil Gala,” held May 17, attracted about 450 people. Proceeds will benefit the hospital’s $260 million replacement project, currently being built around the existing facility, located at 1250 16th St.

When completed in December of 2005, the new, seismically fitted hospital will feature a Northern Italian architectural style similar to original buildings on the UCLA campus. More than 25 percent of the hospital’s campus will be devoted to green or open spaces.

The new hospital also will contain the world-class services of Orthopedic Hospital, currently located in downtown Los Angeles. Under a strategic alliance with UCLA Healthcare, the hospital will relocate many of its services to Santa Monica after the new facility is completed.

Other features of the new facility will be a 13,000-square-foot emergency center to better meet the community’s emergency and urgent care needs, as well as a new labor and delivery unit, and a 16-bassinet neonatal intensive care unit, a state-of-the-art critical care unit and an expanded outpatient treatment center.
