CityTV receives Emmy nomination for documentary By Daily Press Staff

CityTV of Santa Monica has received an Emmy nomination for its documentary “The Lucky Man.”

“This Emmy nomination is very special,” said Robin Gee, station manager for CityTV. “The story of ‘The Lucky Man’ is about one of our own producers who passed away last year. We had hoped that Brian Murphy would still be with us to savor coming this far. We are all keeping our fingers crossed for a win because we want to win the Emmy award for him.”

Murphy, an Emmy-winning filmmaker stricken with ALS, began a video documentary of the last year of his life. Friends at CityTV of Santa Monica completed the documentary with the words of his online journal. Murphy died on Feb. 5, 2003.

The 56th Annual Los Angeles Emmy Awards presentation will be held on Aug. 28 in North Hollywood. Murphy’s wife and children will join CityTV staff at the ceremony to see if his dream of winning a second Emmy award will be fulfilled. The Local Area Emmy Awards are presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

CityTV is the government access cable station for the city of Santa Monica. Seen on cable channel 16, CityTV airs live coverage of City Council meetings, local news and other programming for Santa Monica residents.
