The local Red Cross chapter has many volunteer and professional disaster specialists on hand to assist in emergencies. Your local chapter is a part of the nationwide American Red Cross disaster relief system with extensive resources available to provide assistance even after a major earthquake.
The local American Red Cross aid that should be typically up and running shortly after an earthquake occurs are shelters, communication bulletin boards, food service — in conjunction with shelter operations — and mental health counseling. Supplies are usually available for clean-up and light repairs as well as other services.
