COMMUNITY BRIEFS

A group of young Red Cross volunteers wants to make you breakfast this upcoming weekend.
The youth services division of the American Red Cross of Santa Monica will host a pancake breakfast, Saturday, Nov. 26, from 7 a.m. until noon.
A breakfast of eggs, homemade pancakes, sausage, bacon and an assortment of hot and cold beverages will cost only $5 at the Santa Monica Red Cross chapter, located at 1450 11th St. at Broadway in Santa Monica.
The chefs in the kitchen will consist of youth volunteers affiliated with the chapter’s youth services division headed by Jerry Washington, the Santa Monica Red Cross’ director of volunteers.
“We urge everyone to come by and fill up before they start their holiday shopping,” Washington said. “Our kids have been practicing their culinary skills all week. Diners will flip when they taste just how good our pancakes are.”
Youth volunteers are between 13 and 18 years old. Profits from money raised at the breakfast will subsidize activities and services for more than 600 participating school-age children and young adults volunteering at the Santa Monica chapter. Help a lonely senior during the holidays
