Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 p.m.
Officers in the 500 block of California Avenue received a report about a bicyclist trying to run into a vehicle driving along Wilshire Boulevard. Officers detained the suspect, but could not convince the victim in the car to drive back to the scene and identify the bike rider. Officers questioned the suspect anyway and discovered that he had outstanding warrants. He was detained, and during a search of his belongings, officers found less than an ounce of marijuana. He was arrested for the warrants and possession of marijuana. He was identified as Derron Claude Sutherland, 30, a transient. His bail was set at $3,471.
Thursday, Nov. 1, at 10:10 a.m.
Officers responded to the corner of Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue after receiving a report about a homeless man who was throwing glass bottles at a group of landscapers. When officers arrived, they spoke with the landscapers, who said they were working when the suspect threw a bottle at them. The bottle nearly hit one of the worker’s heads, police said. The suspect then allegedly threw a cup of hot coffee at them. Officers detained the suspect and placed him under arrest for assault with the deadly weapon — the glass bottle. The suspect was identified as Andrew Rotman, 57, a transient. His bail was set at $30,000.
Friday, Nov. 2, at 6:50 p.m.
Officers responded to the 2700 block of Pico Boulevard regarding a strong arm robbery that had just occurred. Officers said three suspects entered a home to visit some acquaintances. While there, the victims told police that the suspects stole nearly $700. As the three were leaving, one of the victims noticed a purse was open and the money was missing. They tried to get the suspects to stop, going so far as to jump on the hood of their car, but the suspects drove off. The SMPD helicopter was in the air that night and got a visual of the suspects’ car parked in a parking lot at Lincoln Boulevard and Marine Street. Officers responded to the area and detained the three suspects and recovered the money. The three were charged with robbery. The suspects were identified as Carolyn Lee Eastwood, 46, from Sherman Oaks; Lisa Ann Coleman, 32, and Takeyshia James, 28, both of Los Angeles. Bail was set at $50,000 each.
Friday, Nov. 2, at 9:20 p.m.
Police responded to the 800 block of 11th Street regarding a residential burglary that was in progress. When officers arrived, they spoke with the resident who made the report. They said an unfamiliar man was in the laundry room messing with a coin machine. Officers went to investigate and found a suspect in the laundry room. Police searched him and discovered a knife, screwdriver, flashlight and a hypodermic needle commonly used to shoot-up drugs. The suspect was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and for suspicion of burglary. He was identified as Edward Anthony Mason, 34, a transient. His bail was set at $75,000.
Saturday, Nov. 3, at 4:20 p.m.
Officers responded to the 2600 block of Lincoln Boulevard — Albertsons — regarding a strong arm robbery suspect in custody. When officers arrived, they spoke with store employees who said they observed the suspect walk into the grocery store carrying a backpack. They watched as he placed more than $100 worth of over-the-counter-drugs, such as antacids and Advil. Employees detained the suspect, who tried to run out of the store. Officers placed him under arrest for robbery. He was identified as Michael Daniel Mulholland, 31, a transient. No bail was set because the suspect was on probation, police said.
Sunday, Nov. 4, at 11:25 p.m.
Officers responded to the 2800 block of Santa Monica Boulevard — The Comfort Inn — after receiving a report of a woman who refused to leave the motel. When officers arrived, they tried to talk with the suspect, but her friend kept interfering. After he was told several times by police to leave the scene, the friend reached into his pockets as if he was about to grab a weapon, police said. Officers wrestled the friend to the ground and placed him under arrest for interfering with an investigation and resisting arrest. Officers searched the friend’s car and found an illegal Billy club. The suspect was identified as Hester Mitchell, 64, of Los Angeles. His bail was set at $20,000.
