Victim says suspect fired shots and fled quickly

PICO NEIGHBORHOOD — Police officers are searching for two suspects wanted in connection with a shooting here Saturday night in an alley near Woodlawn Cemetery.

No one was injured in the attack, said SMPD Capt. Alex Padilla on Sunday.

Witnesses described the shooter as a male Hispanic, 18 years of age and wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt. The driver of the car involved was described only as Hispanic. He was driving a 2000 black or green Honda, according to police.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of 17th Street around 9:45 p.m. Saturday after receiving calls of shots fired. The police were unable to locate any victims on scene, but spoke with several witnesses, Padilla said.

During their investigation, officers were able to identify and make contact with the victim, who said she was driving in an alley when she noticed another car stopped ahead of her. That’s when the shooter jumped out of the car and began shooting, the victim told police.

After firing an unknown number of shots, the suspect then ran back to his car and fled, according to the victim.

Anyone having information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact the robbery/homocide unit of the SMPD at (310) 458-8451 or the watch commander’s office at (310) 458-8427.

Callers who wish to provide anonymous information may also call the We-Tip national hotline at (800) 78-CRIME (27463). Callers with information that leads to an arrest and conviction become eligible for a reward up to $1,000, Padilla said.
