A new dance concert will combine several genres into one show. Choreographer and founder, Sherman L. Steward, is proud to present the premiere of his multi-national, multi-cultural dance company Dance Theater of the World (DTW). Steward combines the classic forms of jazz, modern, ballet and tap.

The success of the fledgling company’s pre-premiere in September, which was a benefit for the AVON walk for breast cancer, raised thousands of dollars and introduced Steward’s artistry. Inspired by a close friend and 10-year cancer survivor, Steward created four original works. He showcased the talented DTW dancers in addition to his pledge to walk.

In a review of the performance, Dwayne Johnson-Cochran wrote, “Steward’s choreography combined jazz, ballet, modern and African dance in seamless combinations, featuring 19th century pointe with cubist twists and turns, some gently amusing, some just gorgeous.”

Steward has studied and performed with some of the best the dance world has to offer, including Arthur Mitchell and Dance Theatre of Harlem, as well as Frank Hatchett and the Broadway Dance Center. He has danced, choreographed and instructed in all major cities around the world, earning a reputation throughout Europe, Asia and Africa for his powerfully symbolic pieces.

The show will take place on March 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Theater, 1501 California Ave. in Santa Monica. ‘Barnyard Madness’ invades Santa Monica
