A local film festival highlighting more than 90 independent films at the Laemmle four-plex on Second Street wraps up this week.
Dances with Films, which promoters tout as the only festival of its kind, focuses on lesser-known filmmakers in an effort to bring their visions to a wider audience.
With more than 50 world premieres, more than 25 west coast premieres, the festival aims to forge ahead in a crowded field of festivals that proliferate Hollywood.
“Film festivals have lost their meaning of discovery,” said Michael Trent, cofounder, in a press release. “If a festival is mainly made up of films opening in the next few weeks, how can that be discovery?
“Almost every film has not been seen in Los Angeles,” he added. “What other fest can say that?”
