Day tripping via the Big Blue

By Daily Press staff

The Big Blue Bus is going the distance for its customers. This fall, Big Blue Bus will take travelers to a Danish village and holiday parade, to sunny Palm Springs, and end the year with the excursion to the Rose Bowl game and parade — all part of a new service called “Getaways.”

The trips are part of the community transit initiative the Big Blue Bus is developing and are designed for people who want to escape for a day-trip.

“These day trips are the perfect escape that require no planning, no fighting traffic, to parking hassles, and saves a bundle on filling up your tank,” said Big Blue Bus spokesman Dan Dawson.

People can buy tickets to the Getaways trip of their choice, ride the bus or park for free from where the buses leave and spend the rest of the day enjoying the ride and the trip.

“While all the trips are fun, the Solvang trip is one of my personal favorites,” says Monica Gonzalez, Getaways coordinator. “It’s like traveling to Denmark in a day. The village is so cute and quaint and the parade is a lot of fun to watch while eating a Danish pastry or sipping some hot chocolate from one of the many bakeries. It’s a great place to do some holiday shopping.”

This fall’s trips and dates are: ■ Palm Springs & Casino, Saturday, Nov. 19 (Tickets: $30) ■ Solvang Danish village and Parade, Saturday, Dec. 3 (Tickets: $35) ■ 117th Rose Parade (grandstand seating) Monday, Jan. 2 (Tickets: $67) ■ 92nd Rose Bowl Game (transportation only) Wednesday, Jan. 4 (Tickets: $30) The Big Blue Bus offers Getaways once a month to festivals, towns, arts events, and historic destinations.
