A pair of local institutions face quite opposite fates, as they grow older and their neighbors grow younger and richer. On Sunday, the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center marked its 80th year with a street festival attended by local officials.
Meanwhile, the Zephyr skateboarding shop on Main Street — regarded by many as the birthplace of modern skating — faces an uncertain future, as the building’s owner looks to redevelop the space.
So this week, Q-Line wants to know: “Is Santa Monica’s history, culture and heritage properly celebrated and preserved, or should bygone eras just be allowed to be gone?”
