DOWNTOWN A singularly good time at Peace Center

Published:

The power of the individual is the topic du jour on Saturday, Jan. 19, when Professor Paula Garb, a founding member of the Citizen Peacebuilding Program and Associate Director of International Studies at the University of California, Irvine, presents a lecture in Santa Monica.

“A Journey Toward Peace: From the Intrapersonal and Interpersonal to the International” will take place at the SGI-USA Culture of Peace Resource Center, 606 Wilshire Blvd.

Since 1999, Professor Garb has directed Center for Citizen Peacebuilding programs in response to the growing national and international problems of conflict and violence. Turning research into action, she takes an integrated approach to studying the best grassroots peacebuilding methods in both domestic and international conflicts, and utilizes those findings in grassroots peacebuilding projects.

“There is an urgency today to educate as many as people as possible to become ‘world citizens.’” says series organizer Ian McIlraith. “Paula Garb is doing just that. Her work in examining and comparing the best conflict resolution practices from citizens living in conflict zones around the globe is helping to train new generations of leaders who can apply them within their local communities.”

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, log on to www.sgi-usa.org/thesgiusa/community/dss/. DP
