COMMUNITY BRIEFS
By Daily Press staff
A crowd of 2,500 kicked off the Santa Monica Drive-In at the Pier on Aug. 1, and the movies over the waves and under the stars will continue on Tuesday, Aug. 8, with “The Muppet Movie.”
The first of the live-action musicals featuring Jim Henson’s Muppets also stars a cast of A-listers, including Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Dom DeLuise, Bob Hope, Madeline Kahn, Richard Pryor, Elliott Gould, Milton Berle, Telly Savalas and Orson Welles.
All movies take place Tuesday evenings in the Santa Monica Pier west parking deck on a huge screen under the stars. Admission is free but tickets are required and are available at Santa Monica visitors centers at 1920 Main St.; the kiosk at 1400 Ocean Ave., and the cart on the Third Street Promenade. Tickets also are available at Vidiots at the corner of Pico Boulevard and Fourth Street, and at the KIIS Beach Shack every Saturday and Sunday on the Santa Monica Pier. Check www.smff.com for more information.
The Santa Monica Drive-In has become a must-go event on the Westside. Moviegoers are asked to bring a jacket or blanket to keep warm after sunset. They don’t even need to worry about lugging the lawn chairs since folding chairs are available to rent for $5. Proceeds from chair rentals, raffle tickets, food, sponsorship and donations support The Cancer Relief Fund of Arts Fighting Cancer, a non-profit organization BRIEFS, from page 3
