By Daily Press staff

U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer is a politician turned planet lover. Boxer announced that she launched a special Web site in honor of Earth Day, which is observed on April 22. The Web site features more than 100 Earth Day events throughout the state.

In addition to California events, and recycling and conservation tips, the Web page includes the history of Earth Day and information about some of America’s most well-known environmental stewards: Edward Abbey, Ansel Adams, John James Audubon, Rachel Carson, Lois Gibbs, John Muir, President Theodore Roosevelt, JoAnn Tall and Henry David Thoreau.

Visitors to the Web site also may test their knowledge with an Earth Day trivia quiz and click onto other links about their national heritage.

The page is located at http://boxer.senate.gov/earthday/index.cfm.
