A couple in their early 90s died in an early morning house fire in the 500 block of Lincoln Blvd.
The fire was first reported shortly before 3 a.m., and firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames.
Firefighters searched the structure for potential victims and during the search, crews located two people, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
The two victims had not been identified; however, KTLA reports that an elderly couple and a caretaker lived at the residence based on statements from neighbors.
The cause of the fire remained unknown Sunday, and no information about arson, foul play or a determined origin had been released.
Sunday's fire was the second fatal residential blaze in Santa Monica in recent months. On June 5, an elderly man died after a fire broke out in a second-floor unit at a two-story apartment complex in the 2600 block of 5th Street. Fire crews responding to that blaze found heavy smoke and flames coming from a rear second-floor unit; the man was pulled from the apartment and later died at a hospital.
